Sound Restoration Unit

The Transcription Department, one of the oldest Departments of the SABC, was established during the 1950’s. Initially the Department was based on the International Broadcasting template of recording local music for use as broadcast content whilst conserving the music for future generations.

The Department is now responsible for digitising the collection and re-distributing the music to all media libraries in the country.

In diversifying its facilities the Department further offers the following services to the SABC and its clients.

These include:

  • Audio Restoration and Mastering: The department operates two Sonic Solution-based Studios offering facilities for noise reduction and CD Red Book PQ mastering and,
  • CD and DVD duplication coupled with our in-house sleeve design and CD printing section allowing for a total packaged Audio products.
