SABC RBF at COP 17 Conference, Durban

SABC studios2

Planning for COP 17 began three months ago with the SABC having been given World Host Broadcast Status. This has brought a number of challenges particularly regarding TV distribution of the different sessions being held at the ICC.

RBF (Radio Broadcast Facilities) set up three fully fledged radio broadcast studios with control rooms at the Durban ICC.  A further 5 edit booths are also available for adhoc bookings at the venue.

Radio Broadcast Facilities also are recording all audio onto CD for the UNFCCC.   All plenaries are available on lines in all Radio and edit booths.  About 30 Radio Broadcast Facilities personal are deployed across venues.

Radio Broadcast Facilities also has setup facilities at the University of KZN for Civil Society reporting.  The venue contains the same capability as the ICC but has only 2 full broadcast capable studios.

The SABC Broadcast compound at the Durban ICC consists of a Television Studio, make up room, 2 x TV Edit Booths and full TV archive capability.  Digital outside broadcast units are also on site.

SABC Platfontein celebrated World Day for Audiovisual Heritage

SABC

SABC Platfontein, which is the home of X-K Fm, the local San radio station, celebrated World Day for Audiovisual Heritage last week.

Moshe Maghundu, the librarian/archivist, reports about the day:

The people made some noise about World Day for Audiovisual Heritage. Information on how technology migrated from old to new helps us to understand where radio comes from.

X-K FM ran a competition based on the Powerpoint presentation. The school children excelled in answering the questions.

There was entertainment by the Platfontein local upcoming artists. They are looking forward to Pops Mohamed Duo who is coming to train them as part of heritage preservation.

A special thanks to RBF production assistant Rena Maghundu for her technical support at the scene, as well asWilliam Heath for availing the equipment. The day was celebrated with great success!
